The XX scooped the 2010 Mercury Prize for album of the year last night with their eponymous debut, beating fellow Londoners Dizzee Rascal, Paul Weller, Mumford and Sons and The Kit Downes Trio. The XX met at Elliott School, Putney. Aspiring pop star parents take note, the school also bred Hot Chip, Four Tet and Burial. The BBC has pictures of all the nominees and the venerable compere, Jools Holland at the ceremony which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel.
In other gong news, the Brit Awards will be bigger than ever in February 2011 as it moves to the O2 Arena.
