Since Sister Act opened last year in a blaze of publicity it's done well at keeping its original cast, but if reports are true, not amazingly at filling seats at the gigantic Palladium. Indeed with Andrew Lloyd Webber's Wizard of Oz due to open there next spring and a closing notice posted for January 1, its days are well and truly numbered.
Next month it's set to get a boost with the news that original movie star Whoopi Goldberg will be joining the cast as Mother Superior for a three-week special appearance from August 10th. Since opening, the role has been played by the mighty Sheila Hancock, but with her contract coming to an end Whoopi has stepped in to return to the show which she launched last year and co-produces.
Yet bear in mind, when the musical first opened last year, Whoopi laughed off ideas of being cast it in saying, "Are you nuts? I can't do eight shows a week of anything. And it's written for people who can actually sing." Fingers crossed then, eh?
