We love a good idea for a club night, and The Record Player has ticked all our boxes. Launching this Saturday night at Concrete on Shoreditch High Street, the night promises to take you on a journey back in time, this time round to 1979. Instead of focusing on one particular type of music, it plans to take a year of history and dig through all the musical gems associated with it. For 1979 we're promised Blondie, Talking Heads, ELO, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac and many more for the big guns, but we're assured that there's going to be a hint of geekery involved with the 4 DJs digging through forgotten treasures for songs we weren't about to dance to when they first came out.

They'd like your help though, and you're invited to head along to their blog to share your recommendations and vote on your favourite 20 songs of the year. Leave us a comment with your favourite song of 1979 and we'll give our favourite suggestion a pair of guestlist to the night.

The Record Player, Concrete, 56 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6JJ. Entry from 8pm - 2am priced at £4.
