Hosted by Bibendum Wines at the elegant and yummy 101 Pimlico Road restaurant, La Vie en Rosé: A Fresh Look at Pink Wines provided Londonist an opportunity to sample a range of Bibendum's latest rosés. From fantastically fizzy to perfectly flat or girlie pink to strawberry hued, a few slurps into last night's tasting and the message was clear: there's delicious variety among these oft scoffed wines. Priced between the recommended retail prices of six quid (for a refreshing and balanced Agustinos Syrah Rosé 2009 - Maipo Valley, Chile) and £51.99 (for Bruno Paillard Brut Rosé Premiere Cuvee NV - Champagne, France), it seems rosés are more than capable to accommodate most budgets and palate preferences.
Wines we liked included a very crisp Jeio Rosé, Bisol NV from Veneto, Italy (rrp £11); a lip smacking and plummy Chateau de Sarrins Rosé, Cotes de Provence 2008 (rrp £12); and the rather intense and berry flavourful els Pyreneus, Atlas de Ruesca Rosado 2009 from Emporda, Spain (rrp £8.49). Gearing up for BBQ season, planning a lovely picnic in the park or need to be alone to admire your Hello Kitty collection? We reckon you can't go wrong with a good rosé.
Located at 113 Regents Park Road (NW1 8UR), Bibendum sells wine direct to the public and to plenty of shops and restaurants in town. Visit www.bibendum-wine.co.uk for more info.
