Londoners At City Hall

Pictures of Londoners whose work is essential to the city go on show today in a free photography exhibition at City Hall. Forget politicians and celebrities, these portraits present the people who operate the Thames Barrier, care for Big Ben's bongs, style the wigs in the West End, keep swimmers safe, hairstyle the homeless, fix black cabs and clean statues. Photographer Harriet Armstrong gives us a glimpse behind the scenes of the capital and hopefully reminds those at City Hall of the ordinary people they're working for in the run up to the general election.

The exhibition runs until 7th May, is free and open to all. The BBC has a selection of the images online if you want a sneak preview.
