A Taste Of Porridge For Kids

Their faces say it all, really

Do not be alarmed at the arrival of mobile police cells at a school near you. It's not the introduction of extreme discipline but probably just the No Way Trust launching their crime deterring Prison Me No Way!!!! scheme in London.

Armed with cell vans, extra exclamation marks and drawing on the experiences of former inmates, the scheme allow kids to experience what it's really like to be a prisoner. In an effort to deglamorise incarceration and crime, the children are isolated, locked up and subjected to a prison regime for a day, participating in exercise and meal routines. Drama, role play and even pop concerts encourage kids to think about their choices whilst having fun. Devised by 3 former prison officers keen to do something practical to help prevent young people winding up in clink it's thought the Trust has reached over 4.5 million young people around the country. High time this initiative arrived in the big smoke, then. Should it make a favourable impression on the children of E17 the programme should be rolled out to all boroughs.
