Spoken Word Preview: Henry Rollins / Poejazzi @ RFH

HenryRollins.jpg This week we're on a bit of a mission to persuade you that spoken word is cool, and we can't think of a better way to do it than casually mentioning that Henry Rollins will be at the Royal Festival Hall next Friday. The oft-shirtless former frontman of Black Flag and the Rollins Band has been doing spoken word for 25 years, venting his spleen in a naturalistic lecture-style, and shows no sign of getting less angry any time soon.

If you can't afford £20 for Henry Rollins and you didn't fancy a trip to Kilburn in the snow on Tuesday, you can catch one of the highlights for free in the RFH Foyer Bar before Mr Rollins takes the stage. The mesmerising, soulful and funny Joshua Idehen hosts The Poejazzi Tonic, with music from Ed Sheeran and Heidi Vogel, and poetry from Ventriloquist and Alex Gwyther - who's described as a bit like Arctic Monkeys' Alex Turner, but we think that does him a disservice.

An Evening of Spoken Word with Henry Rollins, 15th January 7.30pm, Royal Festival Hall, £20 / £17.50. The Poejazzi Tonic, 15th January 6pm, Foyer Bar @ Royal Festival Hall, free.
