Preview: Double Word Whammy @ The Old Red Lion

In our experience of the many Edinburgh Festival previews that overwhelm any venue going across London in the spring, we've learnt that coming up with a title is as important as writing the thing itself. For this reason we're already smitten with Ross Sutherland's Three Stigmata of Pacman, which comes to the Old Red Lion in Angel next week. The Time Out and Sunday Times lauded poet promises a darkly comic true-life tale of self-fulfilling prophecy within the newspaper industry, conveyed through poetry, animation and narrative, which seeks to capture the spirit of a nation where the concept of cultural norms seem to be turned on its head.

The poetry continues later in the evening with The Petty Concerns of Luke Wright, darling of The Observer and Radio 4, who'll be exploring the concept of ego through stand up, poetry and "nipple-tweakingly awful teenage lyrics".

There's definitely something in the air at the moment, as there seems to be a strong spoken word slant to many of the events across London this week, and this promises to be some of the best. We'd advise you to hop on this bandwagon whilst it's still just a wagon.

Jan 12-30, Old Red Lion Theatre. www.oldredliontheatre.co.uk | Tickets £10 each / £16 to see both shows on the same night.
