A cheery new year's message from one Bob Crow, president of the RMT: "2010 will be a year of action". After holding more than 100 ballots nationwide in 2009, the lugubrious union leader has predicted that the new year will bring a bumper crop of strikes, with London in particular singled out as Boris Johnson's cost-cutting measures start to bite. "The growing militancy and confidence of the trade union movement will increase in 2010... if we make this a year of concerted trade union action there is no doubt we can mobilise a fightback", Crow squawked in a festive message to RMT members seen by the Telegraph. For commuters, that hire bike scheme can't launch quickly enough.
