Poetry And Pictures: Popshot Magazine

popshot.jpg Popshot is the latest addition to the local independent publishing scene focusing on poetry and illustration. Born out of Shoreditch, it's a thing of beauty. A neat A5 size magazine with a sleek black and illustrated cover. The styling continues inside, understated and slick. Written on the theme of 'Us and Them' 26 original poems stand side by side with original illustrations. And here's where we have a problem. While the illustrations are consistently striking and interesting, we can't say the same for the poems. For £6 we'd expect a little more. Popshot is open to contributions from anyone so maybe it just hasn't tapped your lyrical talent yet. With the current spoken word scene throwing out incredible and engaging emerging talent a poetry magazine like this isn't unwanted. But it needs filling with wonderful stuff. Got a way with words? The next edition's theme is Liberate. Contribute now.
