Molten is a local celebration of art, culture and diversity but this year has the international and experimental clout of LIFT behind it. Based at theBROADWAY theatre, transformed with a secret garden inside, and LIFT's own portable venue, the Lift, landed on Abbey Green for the ten day jolly. And wow, what a jolly.
Leaping legwarmers, there's a free Fame Dance-a-long, mental music hall, live art guided walks round Barking, karaoke with a 50 piece live orchestra and a ping-pong-athon. Ever got stuck in a mortifying situation? Contribute to suddenlossofdignity.com and you might see your die on the spot moment immortalised in theatre. There are also free writing, poetry and acting workshops at theBROADWAY and it all culminates in a bank holiday weekend Global Village Fete on Abbey Green, whatever the weather. Enjoy cricket on the green, cream teas, craft stalls and "the best of rural England alongside quirky performances from The Fete Encounter, clowns and musicians from around the world".
Opening the extravaganza on Friday 21 August is an awesome sounding aerial performance in front of The Lift from 8pm - one giant human mobile by Transe-Expresse to set the tone for the rest of the fest.
Getting to Barking is easy, so they say. Find out more and book tickets at the LIFT Molten Festival website with events running between 21-31 August 2009.
