Kit Calls To Cut Off Sex Lines

Deputy Mayor, Kit Malthouse, has been on a crusade to ban prostitute sex cards since the turn of the millennium. Today he called on the major mobile phone companies to cut off vice line numbers as soon as they are identified. Such an initiative could create interesting employment opportunities with a new squad of sex card spotters dispatched daily to collect cards and report the numbers - a task which may well see them bumping into the librarians from Wellcome, out collecting additions to the 17 boxes of smut in their curatorial possession.

Malthouse has the "poor girls" behind the numbers at heart and blocking the booking lines is intended to cut off cash to the pimps and traffikers, particularly in the build up to 2012 when an upsurge in the demand for prostitution is expected to accompany Olympic audiences. We're not sure this will help the "poor girls" at all, driving them to the better organised, bigger and more frightening pimps or pushing them out of business altogether and onto the streets. Good news then that it's not only the mobile phone operators invited to his meeting at City Hall this October. The Met and women's organisations from across the capital will also be there to ensure some joined up thinking.

Incidentally, Mr Malthouse apparently said "If you are an American tourist and if you walk into a telephone box you would think it was a sex shop." We'd like to hear from any American tourists who've made this mistake please.
