We're All Staying For Our Summer Holidays

If you're not going abroad this year for a jolly, chances are you'll be spending some of your hard earned holibobs right here. It's no surprise to us that London is the UK's top 'staycation' destination, if that's not a contradiction in terms. The Londonist inbox has been bursting at the seams with superb stuff to do this summer and a brilliant proportion of those activities fit in our London on the Cheap weekly post, which should be delightfully in keeping with your recession beating, Britain-bound break.

Residents have been spoiled with parts of London from all points of the compass having local festivals and there's more to come with Croydon this weekend. August sees the Camden Fringe explode in NW1 and the aptly named Straycation free walking tours begin. We've been reminded to love our parks which is handy for taking a break from all that culture mongering.

Visitors from around the UK will no doubt flock unfathomably to the London Dungeon now there's no Michael Jackson to see - although surely they've not ruled out incorporating his waxwork into the butcher-surgeon scary scenario? - but we'll be out badgering the crowd with Londonist pins to see if we can persuade the tourist trade to take a different look at our capital. He may not have done much lately but we're certainly on message with Boris that "London is a fantastic city to visit at any time of year".
