Glorified Cycle Lane Or Superhighway?

The Newham Recorder's excited for cyclists this week as the grim and busy A13 from Barking to Tower Hill gets designated a Cycle Superhighway, ready for May 2010. In theory, this route will give priority to cyclists and "safe, fast, direct routes to central London from the outer boroughs" and is one of the first of twelve such key routes. But as London Cyclist Andreas points out, it looks like little more than a cycle lane painted blue and, hang on, isn't that a bus bombing along in the special "superhighway"? Check out London Cyclist for more analysis and debate around this scheme. Image TfL artist's impression of a cycle superhighway
