London 2012 Open Weekend
Last September everyone was still a-gog looking at the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Games. The huge fireworks, the big spectacular - plus the sport and the drama, of course - was all there.

The handover to London is now well and truly over, and we have just over 3 years to go before we host the world in our own way. One difference in tone to China is our vibrant voluntary sector, active local communities and eager-beaver local councils - each of which should feel some kind of ownership of 2012. To this end, a 2012-themed Open Weekend is being held on 24-27 July, with hundreds of local events across London and the UK held to celebrate the fact the Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming here.

Games organisers are looking for local events to be run on that weekend. An event could be anything from local sports days or exhibitions in village halls across to anything arty, sustainable, or diversity-related that somehow has a link to 2012 - where you really 'open up' a place or venue, and do something different, something exciting. It's fairly easy to register, and events accepted will get toolkits, promotional help, and advertised on www.london2012.com.

Fancy giving it a go? There's a video of the last Open Weekend here to give you some ideas. Read how to get involved this year, here. We'll find out some of the best London events before the 24th July to give you a heads-up on where's best to go.
