Save The Hither Green Cinema

A campaign to save a former cinema has launched in Hither Green. The Art Deco Park Cinema building on Hither Green Lane was used as a nursery until two years ago; developers wanted to convert the building into flats but now plan to raze the site and build a four-storey block instead. Max Calo (he of the Save Ladywell Pool campaign) wants the building preserved as an arts and community centre - something the area's desperately lacking. There's even ideas for a land swap so the developer still gets his flats. It might sound a long shot, but with another cinema campaign going in Walthamstow, there might be some momentum in this...
