Free Tonight?

Shakespeare.jpg Want to know a secret? Even many Shakespeare scholars haven't read the full works. The Shakespeare Readers' Society aims to plug that gap by reading a play a month (it takes three years). They're doing them in the order they were (probably) written and tonight they're up to Measure for Measure. Join the group in Treadwell's bookshop basement, 34 Tavistock Street - you can take a part if you like or listen to others speaking the Bard's lines. After all, out loud is how they were intended to be heard! The readings attract a fair few drama students so you can bet you'll be getting a good performance, nothing like those stilted, stutterings affairs you suffered through at school. Get there for 6.30pm, bring a copy of the play - they recommend the Arden - and £3 for room hire. (Image / PaulBarbee)
