Credit Crunch Crime Crackdown

The Met have bounded into the New Year with a preemptive strike on burglars. Operation Spotlight has rounded up nearly 600 people with outstanding warrants in an attempt to demonstrate zero tolerance on credit crunch crime. Acting Commissioner Paul Stephenson has also ordered "a police officer to be assigned to every reported burglary in the capital and a forensics team to visit the victim's home within four hours." Which is all very reassuring but the accompanying sad news that knife fatalities continue to rise on our streets, despite multifarious initiatives to stem the bloody tide, you have to wonder where resources are most needed.
