Theatreland may soon be curtain up on Sundays if the current Equity consultation on a new pay deal for performers and management is agreed this week. West End performers not afforded billboard shots and leading roles are notoriously low paid for their demanding 6 day, 8 performance week workload. We imagine the proposed new structure, which could see the minimum wage in large theatres rise to £600 a week, will be welcomed by the troopers and hoofers, who are surely narked that the astronomical ticket prices punters have to shell out for aren't reflected in their pay packets. 7 day shows will also complement Westminster Council's bizarre efforts to inject a little more pizazz into theatregoing by making the pavements sparkly.
