Another week, another erratically-timed gig post from us and yet another award ceremony sponsored by 'The Man'. Those of you who labour under the impression that the NME is somehow alternative and still worth taking notice of will be interested in the results of the hair-product-sponsored NME Awards.

The rest of us who prefer not to build up bands just to knock them down when they get popular will concentrate on getting on with checking out new bands.

The ever-decent FROG features The Subways this Saturday. We can't put it any better than FROG, who say, "The Subways are a buzz of frantic, feverish voltage just waiting to explode - and they frequently do. They're garage rockers. She wears short skirts. They were picked by Michael Eavis to play Glastonbury." You ought to know the score now, details are at the FROG website.

If you'd rather stay at home this weekend than brave the brass monkeys weather, Londonist favourites The Pipettes will be playing at the Cockpit in Leeds. More relevantly, the gig will be broadcast on MyVBX. You'll need to give them your e-mail address before watching the gig on the advert-mad-and-not-all-that-good-but-it-will-have-to-do RealPlayer, so make sure you've got the right software installed before the gig time of 8pm.
