The Salisbury appears on Green Lanes as a beacon of refreshment for those spiced and salted to the gills by the nearby Turkish restaurants.
Once inside, a very decent selection of beers is available (Czech lagers, English ales, bottled craft beers), while the choice of spirits is small but satisfying (JD to Jura, Tanqueray to Sipsmith).
Though you may have come for the liquid, you'll want to stay for the decor. This late Victorian beer palace/hotel has shades of the theatre about it; velvet curtains draped over doorways, shimmering mirrors, stucco framework and a smattering of busts and taxidermy.
OK, you probably won't catch a performance of Othello here, but you can find drama on the big screen showing sport.
