There are few better pubs for people watching than The Northcote. You can spend hours gazing out of the huge windows onto the busy crossroads of the A3 and Northcote Road.
What's inside is pretty good, too. This is a Geronimo Inn, so you can pretty much guarantee comfort, fine food and a decent drinks list. As with all the company's venues, though, this is a very polished, very middle-class affair — perfect if you like that sort of thing, but not everyone's cup of tea. There are four draught ales to choose among and a wine list that goes the extra mile. We tucked into a squid and chorizo salad, with slices of cephalopod so large they'd have given Captain Nemo the willies. The smart upstairs dining room is available for hire, and taken over by regular life drawing classes. Good all-rounder.
