A good, old-fashioned pub with little in the way of pretence or the gastrofication seen elsewhere in Wimbledon — that said, the food menus do look mighty tempting. The downstairs bar is immense, with three of four large rooms, each with their own bars. Despite the size, the Alexandra quickly fills up of an evening. It can take a while to find your drinking buddies.
There's a serviceable selection of ales and lagers, mostly from the Young's range.
The real jewell of the Alex, though, is the rooftop terrace — just about the only outdoor pub seating at the foot of the hill. This can get busy even on a weekday afternoon, and can't be booked, so you'll just have to take your chances. If it's busy, scoot a few doors down to the Hand & Racquet, which is also worth a look.
