Looking in the window, we were initially a bit concerned that the Queens Arms was going to be a bit 'gastro' for our pub-crawling purposes. We needn't have fretted. The QA is perfectly poised to cater for food-hunters and drinkers alike. A separate dining room upstairs leaves more room for us swiggers downstairs.
Its bright open interior is an archetypal 21st century corner pub, with smart wooden panelling, a mirrored bar and brass fittings and that green-grey paint scheme that so many pubs now adopt. Yet this place is old, serving as a community pub since it was built in 1846. Briefly dabbling as a Slug and Lettuce, and then The Page, it's now been back to its original name for a while. (Though the outside seems to change every time we walk past... it's currently a gaudy blue/purple.)
The Queens Arms offers a range of London lagers and beers, a moderate wine list, and a tempting menu of British classics — there's a separate upstairs dining room if the main bar is busy. This pub's a good all-rounder, and only scores low marks for grammar, with its apostrophe-shy name.
