The Canton styles itself as a gastropub, but it's one where you'll feel quite comfortable walking in for drinks only.
The richly furnished, dark-wood interior has the feel of a baronial Scottish manor, and you'll find a wine list of which a Scottish baron might be envious. The beer choice was much poorer — just two cask offerings, though a few more options on keg. A small outdoor seating area out the front offers good people-watching, on a prominent crossroads.
The menu looks sumptious, and we'll be back some time to try the broad offering, which ranges from watermelon gazpacho to monkfish katsu.
