Captain Kidd

Captain Kidd

This pub has been voted by our readers as one of the best in Limehouse and Wapping. See the full list of winners here.

We defy you to enter this pub without emitting a pirate's "Yeeaarrgggh!!". The Captain Kidd is named after one of history's most notorious plunderers, William Kidd, who was eventually hanged hereabouts at a notorious gallows known as Execution Dock.

The old warehouse location adds to the briny charm of the place, and the large windows overlooking the Thames are a joy. There's plenty of space in the large ground-floor bar, with further room and a restaurant upstairs. The adjacent yard gives an outdoor riverside option in the summer.

The usual range of Sam Smith's beer and wine can be yours for a few pieces of eight.

Back to all Pubs Back to Limehouse and Wapping

I am very surprised at the voting of this pub in the face of what appears to be a rather racist pub manager. He states that he is "a poor South African" and was very offhand and racially insulting to a colleague of mine. If you read the Tripadvisor comments and this "South African's" responses to the customer feedback it is abundantly clear that he has zero notion of how to look after Customers. Perhaps he missed that particular class session? Having served a frozen chicken burger he then had the temerity to tear into my colleague and cast insults on his race, even getting that very wrong. The man may very well be the franchise owner, but with his prevalent attitude toward Customers that the business will soon become insolvent.
