This pub was voted one of the best in Crystal Palace by Londonist readers.
Imagine a pub stripped back to the barest essentials. No crappy copper kettles hanging from the ceiling, or prints of greyhounds or Piccadilly Circus on the walls. Then imagine a needle-sharp focus on doing one thing really well, namely the serving of good beer. That's Beer Rebellion, whose original pop-up shop was so loved it turned permanent.
You'll find this ale temple directly opposite Gipsy Hill, which is like 10 minutes by train from Victoria and infinitely better than anything you'll find there. Cask and keg ales come mostly from the company's own Late Knights Brewery, down the road in increasingly trendy Penge (yes, don't argue). Beers from just about every other young brewery you've ever heard of are available in cans and bottles.
The upstairs tap room is thin and potentially cramped. However, there's plenty of seating down in the candlelit basement. You'll also find a pub quiz down here every Monday. Order a burger, select your tipple and prepare to spend the whole evening here.
