One of England's most distinguished 19th century architects, Sir John Soane, bequeathed his home to the public upon his deathbed. But it wasn't any old house.
Sir John, who designed the likes of the Bank of England (before it was destroyed during renovations) and Dulwich Picture Gallery, owned a stunning art collection. Almost 200 years later, paintings, drawings, sculptures and antiques continue to line the walls of the fascinating Sir John Soane's Museum.
It's free to visit during the day. But for maximum atmosphere, immerse yourself in one of the special candlelit lates. You'll be led on a curated voyage through the collection, complete with stories, secrets and maybe even a hidden doorway or two.
