Can't wait a moment longer for the Elizabeth line to open?
There's a way to sate your impatience: London Transport Museum is running virtual tours of the brand new stations at Liverpool Street and Tottenham Court Road, via a live Zoom link.
For each tour (they cost a not-insignificant £20), a guide will lead you round one of the two stations, giving background on everything from archaeology to engineering to artwork — while pointing out trivia titbits along the way (did you know, for instance, the new Liverpool Street station is meticulously slotted in between the existing Liverpool Street and Moorgate stations — coming within half a metre of the Mail Rail!)
London Transport Museum is billing these virtual tours as a 'once-in-a-lifetime opportunity' to experience the stations before they open to the public. (If there's a chance for questions at the end, make sure you ask when exactly the Elizabeth line is opening: they'll love that, and certainly won't have been asked it before.)
In all seriousness, we've been promised the Elizabeth line will be up and running by the end of June (minus Bond Street). We took a cheeky ride back in March.
Virtual tours of Liverpool Street: 2 and 3 May; Tottenham Court Road: 10 and 11 May. Each tour lasts approx. 90 mins. Tickets £20 per station.
