There's a chance to ride on a horse-drawn tram in central London this February, and you don't even need your Oyster card.
The free omnibus rides are part of an event marking 200 years since the Cato Street Conspiracy — a foiled plot to murder the prime minister and all of his cabinet members.
Taking place on 23 February at Cato Street in Marylebone, the event sheds light on the dramatic turn of events of 23 February 1820, which saw 13 plotters tricked into a police trap and arrested. One policeman was killed with a sword in the melee.
Although the violent denouement itself won't be reenacted, Cato Street itself will turn the clock back, with Regency-era children's games and traditional food and drink from the time, alongside the horse-drawn tram rides — which is how many Londoners got about in those days. A recording tells the story of the Cato Street Conspiracy outside the house where the plot was foiled.
On the same day, a one-man play about the Cato Street Conspiracy will be performed in the Duke of York pub.
Guildhall Library also has a small exhibition on the Cato Street Conspiracy, alongside special tours.
