The London Eye has a new rival.
There's been talk for some time about a 'great glass elevator' that shoots up the inside of one of the iconic Battersea Power Station chimneys, to a 360-degree viewing platform at the tippity top.
Now, Lift 109 (so called because it's 109 metres tall) is here. Well, just about. A website has appeared, inviting eager beavers to pre-register for tickets.
Other details are nebulous; we're told the attraction opens sometime in the autumn, and there are as yet no prices available. But what, with the building's rich history — not to mention a thrilling new vantage point over the Thames — we expect Lift 109 to join the ranks among London's other great towering attractions, which include the London Eye, Up at The O2, and (to be a little more niche) Canonbury Tower.
