Legendary East End boozer The George Tavern has been saved from closure, following years of wrangling.
The centuries-old public house is renowned for its live music, seeing gigs from the ilk of John Cooper Clarke, Anna Calvi and Nick Cave β as well as forming the backdrop for photo shoots for Grace Jones and Kate Moss.
But ever since developers threatened to build apartments nearby, the George has been threatened with losing its livelihood, due to enforced noise regulations.
Now, a Deed of Easement bill β the second ever to be granted to a UK venue β has been accepted by Tower Hamlets council, meaning that the George can continue to put on live music, and essentially keep its livelihood.

Among the many people that the pub has thanked, are Ed Bayes, Culture at Risk Officer, Amy LamΓ© (London's night czar), Paul Broadhurst, and the Music Venue Trust.
A party will be thrown on 15 March. We reckon it'll be pretty banging.
