The JD Wetherspoon chain has plenty of impressive venues, but this must rank as the jewel in the crown.
The Capitol is built within a listed 1920s cinema. The screen is long gone, now replaced by a wall of booze, but this is still a magnificent old building.
Many of the cinema's original features were preserved during its stint as a bingo hall, and now add a touch of glamour to this cavernous pub.
Otherwise, there's not a lot to say. In terms of experience, it's a typical Wetherspoon affair, with a wide range of (very) cheap ales, inexpensive food, a novelty carpet and zero sport or music. Just a one-minute walk from Forest Hill station, this place is a must-visit purely for the decor.
