One of the larger branches of the Draft House chain sees the winning formula repeated for the Holborn area. It's a part of town with many long-established pubs (Princess Louise, Cittie of Yorke, The Lamb...), but also a growing range of more adventurous beermongers (Holborn Whippet, Craft Beer Co...). Can it survive amid such depth and breadth?
Yes, judging from the excitable bustle that fills the place at any decent drinking hour. This branch is perhaps a bit more suity than the outposts in the suburbs and West End, but it still has a laid-back vibe totally different from other venues in the area.
As usual for this chain, there are more beers on tap than you could possibly drink in one visit, including plenty of novelties. Oh, and that ubiquitous Pilsner Urquell tank beer that seems to be invading the pubs of London at the moment.
We haven't tried the food, but the menu looks pretty similar to other branches: burgers and hotdogs and that kind of malarky.
