Vinegar Yard: London's New Street Food Market... With A Train Carriage On The Roof

New street food venue Vinegar Yard opens in London Bridge next week, bringing food, drink, art installations and pop-up shops and events to a space two minutes' walk from London Bridge station.

Which food traders are at Vinegar Yard?

Commute through London Bridge? Gentlemen's Barista could be your new morning coffee stop

Locally-based coffee company The Gentlemen Baristas will run an all-day coffee shop, open from 7.30am and serving food for breakfast, brunch and lunch. At midday, other traders begin serving. The line-up of food traders is scheduled to change regularly, but confirmed for the opening are:

  • Baba G's, winners of TV's Million Pound Menu, serving Indian inspired sandwiches and burgers
  • Up In My Grill, specialising in Argentinian flame-grilled steak
  • Nanny Bill's, offering up a delicious, carby mix of burgers and croquettes
  • Sugo, an Italian company serving up Italian ciabattas filled with meat and vegetable sauces
  • Turnips, a fruit and veg stall from Borough Market who are whipping up risottos and juices.

Is there a bar at Vinegar Yard?

Of course there's a bar — they're not amateurs. It's open-air, and has a tap for a rotating selection of craft beers brewed locally here in London. Shouldn't be too hard to find them, with the Bermondsey Beer Mile so close by.

Why is there a train carriage on the roof near London Bridge?

Ah yes, the train carriage. The site's been turning heads for a few weeks, thanks to a train carriage that's been plonked on a roof on St Thomas Street.

Sadly you can't get inside — it's an art installation (as are the giant ants crawling on it), one of several due to appear at Vinegar Yard in the coming weeks. Artist Joe Rush — who created those ants, along with the more famous Arcadia spider — has a working studio in Vinegar Yard, where the public can watch him and his team creating his mutant works.

Events at Vinegar Yard

Every weekend, Flea London, a vintage and maker's market selling clothing, jewellery, accessories and homeware, will pop up in Vinegar Yard. With several pop-up vintage shops open in the week as well, Vinegar Yard has set its sights on becoming something of a vintage lovers' paradise.

Vinegar Yard, 80-82 St Thomas Street, SE1 3QU. Open seven days a week from 3 April 2019.
