The annual extravaganza of science and technology is back!
Intrigued by quantum supercomputers? Want to know how scientists are fighting back against plastic waste? What's the next big telescope, now the James Webb is in service? How do animals sense the world differently to us?
If you're even a teensy bit interested in science, then get along to the Royal Society's Summer Science Exhibition 2025, where all of these questions will be answered. It's an annual, family-friendly event where the public gets to meet leading scientists and quiz them about their work. And they've been putting on a summer show for over 30 years.
It's always very hands-on. This year's 13 main exhibits also include the chance to wear an ultrasound sensing helmet or force-sensing surgeon's glove; compose a pop song using only facial expressions; or play with something called an 'EntangleCam', which uses entangled particles of light to see new details of infrared.
The exhibition is also a good chance to snoop around the Royal Society's marble-lined headquarters on Carlton House Terrace. Besides the exhibits, the rooms will be full of talks, workshops and hands-on activities.
The Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition takes place 1-6 July 2025, with an adults-only Lates event kicking things off on the evening of 1 July. It's all free, though you're encouraged to register in advance for priority access.
