In need of something to wake you up and f**k you up?
London is about to get a dedicated espresso martini bar, slinging six variations of the (in)famous caffeinated cocktail, that was invented here in London.
On 11 September The Folly, near Monument, launches The Absolut Hideaway by Drake & Morgan — a velvet-adorned bar, which runs until April 2025, serving up:
🍸 Wagon Wheel — infused with raspberry puree and garnished with red coffee beans and toasted white marshmallow
🍸 Clearly Coffee — featuring Absolut Vodka infused with coffee beans sourced from female-led farms in Peru
🍸 White Mocha — made with creamy white chocolate
🍸 Whip & Sip — topped with ice cream, white chocolate, and a sprinkle of gold glitter
🍸 Dolce & Banana — made with cold brew & banana liqueur
🍸 Espresso Martini — the OG
The birth of one of the most popular (and punchiest) cocktails is attributed to the late Dick Bradsell. While working as a bartender at the (now shuttered) Soho Brasserie on Greek Street in the 1980s, he was asked by a well-known and worse-for-wear American model (whom he never named) for a libation that would "wake me up, then f**k me up". The coffee machine was located nearby, inspiration struck, and the rest is history.
