The House of Commons is a little quiet at the moment. There's the small matter of an election, so prospective MPs are busy campaigning — trying (and often failing) to make it 24 hours without committing a gaffe.
That means the Member's Dining Room is empty, allowing us, the great unwashed, to feast like an MP over the Christmas period. Sample top British cuisine surrounded by the portraits of past political giants, like William Wilberforce and Nancy Astor (the first female MP to take her seat).
You can either plump for lunch or dinner: the former costs £45 per person, the latter £55. Reservation for up to eight people are available for either. The menu changes depending on what seasonal ingredients are available, but the sample menu [PDF] is mouthwatering. Braised rabbit with a wasabi mayo (oh my).
The room is opened for a select number of dates throughout late November and early December. The last possible day to visit is 11 December, just one day before the general election. Ah, the calm before the storm.
