Ice rinks are returning to two of London's Historic Royal Palaces for Christmas 2019.

Both the Tower of London and Hampton Court Palace will hosts skaters against the backdrop of the historic buildings.

The ice rink in the Tower of London moat is bigger than ever this year — but they've kept the capacity the same, meaning everyone has more room to perfect those figure-of-eights.

Skate alongside the wall of the historic fortress, which is illuminated with festive lights as night falls. After your turn on the ice, warm up at the Ice Rink Cafe Bar, also located in the moat and serving hot and cold food and snacks.

Sessions are 45 minutes long, and prices begin at £15 adult/£10.50 child.

Tower of London ice rink is open 16 November 2019-5 January 2020.

Further out west, an ice rink pops up against the backdrop of Hampton Court Palace. Henry VIII's former countryside pad keeps its ice rink open for longer hours than previous years, with sessions until 9pm in peak times.

As with the Tower of London, a cafe bar runs alongside the ice rink, offering warming food and drinks (hello, mulled wine) for after your skate, or for anyone who just wants to watch.

Sessions are 45 minutes long, and prices begin at £15 adult/£10.50 child.

Hampton Court Palace ice rink is open 22 November 2019-5 January 2020.
