This Incredibly Lifelike Gingerbread Model Of Covent Garden Is Now On Display

A 4ft wide gingerbread recreation of Covent Garden Market has been unveiled inside the real Covent Garden Market.

Londonist's resident jokester was quick to ask whether the spiced structure is the work of the muffin man who lives on (nearby) Drury Lane. In fact two icing wizards from Biscuiteers spent over 100 hours putting it together. It weighs over 10kg, including a dentist-defying 5kg of icing.

The attention to detail is incredible, with the Christmas wreaths and panes of glass all visible individually. The cobbles of the Piazza are present, as is the towering Christmas tree, and individual shop names are written in icing over the doors.

Limited edition Covent Garden Biscuiteers tins are available to buy in the market, along with a build-your-own Covent Garden Market Building gift set in case you want to recreate the magic at home.

Harriet Hastings, Founder of Biscuiteers said:

We are really excited to introduce Biscuiteers to Covent Garden this Christmas. Our talented biscuit designers have reimagined this iconic London landmark in gingerbread and icing with hours of painstaking and highly skilled work. We are very excited to see it installed in Covent Garden’s Market Building and hope that it will be enjoyed by all the visitors this Christmas.

It's not the only festive addition to Covent Garden this year. The Christmas lights are switched on from Tuesday 12 December, and a New York-inspired Tiffany & Co. ice rink opens on 29 November.

The gingerbread model is on display in Covent Garden's Central Avenue until 24 December 2019. For further gingerbread fun, look out for Museum of Architecture's Gingerbread City, opening at nearby Somerset House in December.
