The Ideal Home Show At Christmas comes to London in November

Whether you want to get your Christmas shopping done, or you're looking to buy festive treats and Christmas decorations, London's many Christmas markets and fairs are the place to be. Below are details of London's Christmas 2019 markets. Check out our guide to spending Christmas in London for other festive events in the capital

Central London Christmas markets

Southbank Centre's Winter Market

WINTER MARKET AT SOUTHBANK CENTRE: The Winter Market returns to the riverside by Southbank Centre, offering a range of winter pop-up bars, restaurants and stalls under a canopy of twinkling lights. 8 November 2019-5 January 2020

CHRISTMAS IN LEICESTER SQUARE: Put together by the team behind Underbelly Festival, Christmas in Leicester Square is a festive fondue of live cabaret shows, Christmas market stalls and food and drink offerings. They pack a surprising amount into the world-famous square, including wooden chalets selling handcrafted goods. 8 November 2019-5 January 2020

CHARTERHOUSE CHRISTMAS FAIR: The Charterhouse in Clerkenwell hosts over 35 stalls for its one-day only Christmas fair. Food and drink, accessories, crafts and homewares are available. It takes place on a Tuesday, so is likely to be a bit less busy than London's other Christmas markets. 12 November 2019

Shop against a backdrop of rollercoaster at Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

HYDE PARK WINTER WONDERLAND: If you like your Christmas shopping with a side of fun fair rides, theatre shows, and even an ice rink, Hyde Park Winter Wonderland is the place to head. Traditional wooden chalets sell jewellery, food and drink, toys, clothes, craft items and more. Be warned though — it does get VERY busy at Winter Wonderland, particularly on evenings and weekends closer to Christmas. 21 November 2019-5 January 2020

Christmas by the River returns

GUILDHALL: The British Red Cross’ Guildhall Christmas Market is a chance to see inside the medieval building while making progress on your Christmas shopping. Over 100 stalls take over the Great Hall, plus there's a fashion show, food stalls, and lunch or afternoon tea options — and it's all raising money for charity. 25-26 November

LONDON BRIDGE: Christmas by the River returns to the southern bank of the Thames, between London Bridge and Tower Bridge, with wooden cabins, festive food and drink, and river views. 26 November 2019-5 January

BLOOMBERG ARCADE: For the first time, Bloomberg Arcade hosts a Winter Market, handily located close to Bank for City workers to pop out in their lunch break or after work and indulge in some retail therapy. Focus is on sustainability, with products such as ethically sourced jewellery and local artisanal honey available. 27-28 November

MAYFAIR: Luxury Asian-Italian restaurant Novikov sees Mayfair Place closed to traffic for its annual Christmas market. Jewellery, soap and millinery brands are among the high-end goods for sales, with mulled wine available to sip as your browse — plus carols singers and Father Christmas himself make an appearance. 28-30 November

OXFORD STREET: The Fair Christmas Fayre offers an ethical Christmas shopping experience, right on Oxford Street. It supports the work of the Salvation Army, and sells upcycled, recycled and charity gifts. 7 December

ST JAMES'S: Full details of the St James's Christmas market have yet to be announced, but we do know that retailers from the area and smaller independent businesses will be selling their wares. 7 December

North London Christmas markets

The Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair comes to Islington

COUNTRY LIVING MAGAZINE CHRISTMAS FAIR: Expect high-end goods aplenty at the Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair in Islington, which caters for all aspects of the festivities, from gifts to food and drink to decorating your home. Everything from jewellery to gin to cheese to textiles to artworks is available to buy. There's also a full programme of talks and workshops covering everything from chocolate tasting to making your own festive fairies, wreaths and baubles. We're exhausted just thinking about it. 13-17 November 2019

CHRISTMAS NIGHT MARKET: Forty Hall in Enfield stays open late for its annual Christmas shopping fair, which usually showcases many local businesses. Wander through the hall's beautiful period rooms, browsing gift ideas, stocking fillers, and craft items, all with a glass of mulled wine in your hand. 29 November 2019

A previous Crafty Fox Market Christmas fair

CRAFTY FOX CANOPY MARKET: Always a favourite of ours, Crafty Fox Market pairs up with Canopy Market in King's Cross for one December weekend. Alongside the usual Canopy Market traders, a curated selection of Crafty Fox stallholders sell their wares. 13-15 December 2019

CRAFTY FOX KING'S CROSS: In addition to the above, even more Crafty Fox Market traders pitch up in King's Cross on 15 December at The Crossing. They're close enough together that you can visit both in one trip — and hopefully tick off all your Christmas shopping. 15 December 2019

South London Christmas markets

Greenwich Market stays open late for three Wednesdays in December

WANDSWORTH: The Wandsworth Friends of the Royal Trinity Hospice hold a fundraising Christmas fair. 40 stalls are present (half of which are new for this year), plus there's a silent auction, a chance to buy charity Christmas cards, and more. 12-23 November

SYDENHAM: St Christopher's Hospice takes over Kingsdale Foundation School for a Christmas market. In addition to plenty of opportunities to buy gifts, the market includes food and drink from local producers, a bouncy castle, tombola, lucky dip and a prosecco and gin bar. 16 November

BLACKHEATH: The Friends of Age Exchange hold their 7th annual Blackheath Christmas Fair at Blackheath Halls, selling books, jewellery, gifts food and drink. Money raised goes back to the charity. 17 November

BECKENHAM: SoLo Craft Fair takes over The Chancery in Beckenham for a day of Christmas shopping and food and drink. 25 stalls take over the gastropub selling homewares, stationery and more, and there's a kids' corner to keep little ones entertained while your browse. 23 November

CRAFTY FOX BRIXTON: Another entry for Crafty Fox, this time a festive special in Brixton. There's a different line-up on both days of this market, plus DJs spinning tunes, a bar serving refreshments, and workshops for you to get your craft on. 23-24 November 2019

Sample Christmas at Greenwich Peninsula

DULWICH: SoLo Craft Fair has another outing, this time in Dulwich, with a whole new set of stallholders. Head to St Barnabas Parish Hall to support local artists selling everything from jewellery to candles to prints. 30 November

PEBBLEFESTIVE: Flat Iron Square hosts sustainability-focused Pebblefestive, aimed at anyone wanted to get involved in everyday activism, or learn how to live more sustainably next year. A massive ethical high street is set up for the day, offering plenty of gift shopping options, and there are talks, workshops, vegan beer tasting, and more. 30 November

GREENWICH CHRISTMAS MARKETS: Greenwich Market stays open late for three Wednesdays in December, with a mixture of regular and one-off stall holders selling handcrafted gifts. Focus is on British-made and eco-friendly items — think candles, handbags, jewellery, cushions and more. 4 December/11 December/18 December 2019

BALHAM: A final festive outing for SoLo Craft Fair, this time at Balham Bowls Club. The Winter Market is decked with fairy lights, accompanied by festive music, and aided along by servings of mulled wine from the bar. Over 30 traders sell their wares, and there are festive workshops where visitors can get creative too. 7 December

GREENWICH PENINSULA: 100 designer-makers and an extensive programme of live music, street theatre and family-friendly festivities take place along new elevated linear park The Tide. Sample Christmas brings together fashion, design, homewares and food produce items, plus creative workshops. 7-8 December

CRAFTY FOX ELEPHANT & CASTLE: Yep, Crafty Fox Market gets around a bit. This time it's pitching up at its regular location, Mercato Metropolitano in Elephant & Castle, albeit with a festive theme. Traders yet to be announced at time of writing — keep an eye on the website. 7-8 December 2019

East London Christmas markets

Renegade Craft returns to London

MERRYMAKING: Stratford's Here East hosts the Merrymaking Christmas market. Browse ceramics, homeware, jewellery, artworks, stocking fillers and festive food and drink. If you're inspired by what you see, get creative yourself at candle pouring, pom pom making and Christmas card workshops. 30 November

SUSTAINABLE CLAPTON: Present company Buyagift hosts its first Sustainable Christmas Market at Core Clapton, with brands selling ethically produced cosmetic and skincare, jewellery, fashion and more. Minimal waste workshops including wreath-making and jumper upcycling. 1 December

EASTBURY MANOR HOUSE: Little has been revealed so far about the Christmas Maker's Market at Eastbury Manor House. Watch this space. 1 December

ALDGATE: Co-working space Benk+Bo hosts a Christmas Makers Market, designed to be more intimate than other festive events. It consists of carefully curated selection of stalls, bespoke hamper service, free yoga, candle-making and pickling workshops, with the likes of ceramicist Louise Madzia, card makers Mean Mail and indie publishing house The Hoxton Press exhibiting. 1 December

ZERO WASTE: The Boiler House on Brick Lane hosts London's second Zero Waste Christmas Market.  Independent, plastic-free traders are on hand to sell goods which dodge the usual trap of plastic packaging. There are also DIY workshops to take part in, and panel discussions about the future of sustainability. 7 December

LONDON CITY ISLAND: New neighbourhood London City Island (the sticky-out bit of land between East India, Trinity Buoy Wharf and Canning Town) hosts an ice rink for the first time this year, presumably to get people into the area and see what it's about. For four days, a Christmas market runs alongside the rink, selling festive food and drink, ethical chocolates and more. 12-15 December

RENEGADE CRAFT FAIR: Hailing from America, Renegade Craft Fair's only event outside the USA takes place at Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. Focus is on supporting independent makers and designers — enjoy a drink or two as your browse 20 stalls — details TBC. 14-15 December 2019

West London Christmas markets

Decorations galore at the Ideal Home Show at Christmas

SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS: If you're the sort who counts down to Christmas as soon as the last one is over, the Spirit of Christmas Fair at Olympia is very much for you. It's a great excuse to officially begin the festivities in early November, and goes on for a whole week, ample time to browse the 900+ shops represented there. In addition to that, the Food Hall offers 100 more artisan producers to browse, and a programme of workshops has yet to be announced. 4-10 November 2019

RUGBY PORTOBELLO: The Rugby Portobello Trust holds its 30th anniversary Christmas Market in Notting Hill. Over 50 stallholders sell high end crafts and luxury gifts, and there's  a Christmas café with a special Ottolenghi salad, a stall selling bespoke wreaths made by RPT volunteers, and children’s author Abi Elphinstone is signing books. Proceeds support RPT’s work with children, families and young people. 12-13 November

Strawberry Hill House hosts a Christmas Festival

STRAWBERRY HILL: Gothic mansion Strawberry Hill House hosts a Christmas Festival, incorporating 40 stalls selling gifts, crafts and local produce. Wander through the historic rooms of the house, and St Mary's University next door. Tuck into a hog roast and mulled wine. Author talks which are part of Richmond Literature Festival also take place. 17 November

CHELSEA: Chelsea's Enchanted Christmas Fair transforms the beautiful town hall into a shopping wonderland for the day. Beauty products, food gifts, jewellery, crafts, homeware and more are all available to buy, plus there's live entertainment, face painting and mulled wine. 17 November

Get your house ready for the festivities at the Ideal Home Show At Christmas

IDEAL HOME SHOW AT CHRISTMAS: Head back to Olympia a few days later for the Ideal Home Show At Christmas. Focus is getting your home ready for the festive period, with a plethora of decorations to browse, but there are also gift ideas, foodie items, a cake competition, festive theatre and live music performances, and plenty of free talks giving interior design inspo. 20-24 November 2019

CHELSEA PHYSIC GARDEN: 100 stalls, Santa's grotto and a craft area are all part of Chelsea Physic Garden's Christmas fair, which runs all weekend. Wander through the garden browsing knitwear, jewellery, homewares and more, and finish up in the cafe, where festive food and drink is available. 22-24 November

EALING BROADWAY: Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre hosts a series of winter chalet-style stalls, with a rotating line-up of traders each week to keep things fresh. Traders from all over the world sell their products underneath a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, with carol singers serenading the crowds at certain times. 27 November-24 December
