Here's What The Battersea Development Looks Like From Above

One of London's iconic buildings is in the process of a facelift. Well, perhaps facelift doesn't quite do it — Battersea Power Station is being put through full-blown plastic surgery, as it and its surrounds are morphed into an entire new mini-district of Thames-side London.

These aerial shots of what has been hailed as the largest regeneration project in Europe, come courtesy of The London Helicopter, which operates from nearby Battersea Heliport.

When it's completed, the area will be a hub of housing, retail, restaurants and parks. It's seen as positive thing by some (no doubt those who can afford to snap up one of the flashy apartments), but others are less keen. Indeed, the Circus West development being wrapped around the 1930s power station was nominated for the 2017 Carbuncle Cup.

These images certainly give an idea of the scope of this project — of which you can only catch glimpses from the train tracks and roads that pass by the area.

Aside from the regeneration of the power station, the area will be home to the new US Embassy, pictured below. It's an altogether different beast from near-Soviet looking effort in Grosvenor Square.

Alongside it, we see Embassy Gardens rising from the ground — an impossibly slick housing complex that has been keen to crow about its sky pool, linking up two of the blocks. (We won't lie, we want a swim.)

Elsewhere, vast expanses of emptiness show how much is still to be done — the gaping hole below has been left in the wake of the demolished New Covent Garden Flower Market (a replacement lies just up the road).
