Fancy Being A Lock Keeper? Here's Your Chance
Peigi Mackay has been a volunteer lock keeper at Camden for three years.

The Canal & River Trust has launched an appeal to find new volunteer lock keepers to look after London's canals.

People are needed to fill the historic role, helping passing boaters to operate the locks, welcoming visitors and giving a hand to the Trust’s teams in maintaining the canal, including repairing and painting fences, litter picking and cutting back overgrown bushes.

Lock keepers are needed to work on canals across London, including in Brentford, Camden, Cowley, Tottenham and Hanwell.

Fancy giving it a go? It doesn't matter how old you are, or how much experience you have (full training is provided), you just need to be able to commit to one day per fortnight, increasing to one day per week in the summer months (April-October).

Find out more about being a volunteer lock keeper involves here, or apply here. Applications close on 29 January.
