Nowadays, your average DJ can pick up his gear on eBay, plug it in to a MacBook and hey presto, you’ve pretty much got every song that was ever recorded available to throw in to a mix.

While it provides un-fathomable combinations at your fingertips, it also has taken some of the craft out of a DJ selecting their crate of records prior to performing. Not to mention extricating any romance out of the process.

Fighting this trend and signalling that this classic format of music is once again on the rise, new night Cratediggers is promising both vinyl and rarities from the capital’s cultural influencers each Friday in Shoreditch.

The series started earlier this month with Eat Your Own Ears and the guys behind the Field Day festival curating the tunes and subsequent nights have included the likes of Moshi Moshi — the label behind acts such as Hot Chip and Bloc Party.

Next up is Rob-Da-Bank’s Sunday Best label, performing tonight, and will be followed in a week’s time by music magazine Drowned in Sound.

Cratediggers takes place every Friday 10pm-2am at The Woods 54-56 Great Eastern Street, EC2A 3QR
