Female Filmmakers In The Limelight

WOMEN IN REVOLT GENERIC BANNER

Across three Monday nights in April, an impressive list of up-and-coming female filmmakers will get a chance to show and talk about their short films as part of the Women In Revolt series. The programme aims to investigate a range of relevant issues including how the female form is depicted on screen and how it has been commodified. So a long overdue take-down of cellulite on celluloid then.

At each night’s screening there’ll be conversations with the directors to explore the questions raised in the films. Among the speakers will be Beryl Richards, chair of Directors UK; Daisy Gili, founder of the London Film Academy (whose film The Summer House will be screened, which features Talulah Riley and a pre-Twilight Robert Pattinson); and Aurora Fearnley, the director of hotly-anticipated sci-fi feature Pulsar (starring Interstellar’s David Gyasi).

Women In Revolt is co-curated by Shorts On Tap and “queer feminist film club” Club Des Femmes. It’s backed by Film London with the three events taking place at Stow Film Lounge (6 April), Deptford Cinema (13 April) and Hotel Elephant (20 April) — all starting at 8pm. Tickets £5
