James Mylne is an artist who specialises in drawing photorealistic black and white images of women, many from the Golden Age of Hollywood, including June Tripp and Audrey Hepburn. When asked why he chooses to focus on this era, he states: "With today's overbearing pressure on models' appearances and over photo-shopped images, it is worth remembering how effortless style and elegance was achieved so naturally many decades ago".

We came across his work at an earlier group show at Rook & Raven. Though his work seemed impressive, it's only when we realised that they are drawn solely with the use of Biro that we were blown away. Mylne often spends hundreds of hours on each work and one mistake can mean a waste of months of effort. It's only on very close inspection that the penmanship can be seen and even then, some viewers will still refuse to believe it until they see the accompanying of Mylne at work.

These are the outputs of a talented and dedicated artist, and viewing them up close in the gallery makes the feat seem even more impressive.

James Mylne: Vintage Vogue is on display at Rook & Raven, 7 Rathbone Place, W1T 1HN from 5-31 October. Entrance is free.
