Not since David Blaine's perspex box-stunt in 2003 (or, at a push, George W. Bush in 2008) has the arrival of one man in London sparked such vitriol. Thousands massed around the Mall and beyond over the weekend to complain about the Holy Father's state visit.

Check out our Flickr pool for hundreds more pics of the protest. You might even see a couple of candid shots of Benedict XVI in there, although the preponderance of protest photos suggests that Londonist readers as a whole weren't entirely in favour of the papal visit.
