Closed to the commuting public since 1994, Aldwych station is to briefly re-open for a special exhibition on 'Transforming the Tube'. Only the ticket hall will be accessible — no jaunt down to the platforms this time, and it's expecting a little too much to hope that they'd re-open the spur line down from Holborn. Still, Aldwych (formerly Strand) is one of the more conspicuous disused stations at surface level, with its Piccadilly-standard terracotta tiles and semicircular windows by designer Leslie Green, and all those who've eyed it curiously from the street will be eager to get inside. The exhibition runs from Monday 28th June to Friday 9th July, from 10am to 7pm Monday - Friday, and 10am to 4pm weekends. Entrance to the station is on Surrey Street, WC2R 2NE.
