American Architects Shortlisted For New Embassy

American flag Having announced plans last year to vacate the Grosvenor Square embassy, the US State Department has drawn up a shortlist of American architects to help design a new building. They're evidently trying to eschew the fortress-style bunkers characteristic of US embassies in some countries: the shortlist includes a couple of Pritzker-prize winning architects, and Richard Rogers is on the jury. Positive news all round, although we're still no closer to knowing what will come of the embassy's existing Eero Saarinen-designed home. (Image / Dru Bloomfield)
