The BBC is often accused of being London-biased and besmirching the country's northern climes, but Auntie has nothing on a report which reckons that cities such as Liverpool, Sunderland and Bradford are 'beyond revival'. Policy Exchange, a favoured think tank of David Cameron, believes that the decline of shipping and manufacturing means former coastal strongholds are doomed, and that costly regeneration across the cities should be abandoned. Moreover, they've advocated a mass migration southward......

There's nothing shabby about Derelict London, a thoughtful compendium of unloved and forgotten buildings, the necrotic ulcers in London's hidden underbelly. Photos from the author, some taken in locations where we wouldn't want to risk an expensive SLR, are backed up with illuminating research and tip-offs from fans of his web site. The book opens with a sorry tale. A ramshackle Victorian cottage in East Dulwich is in limbo - it is Grade II......

Lewisham is a bit harsh, innit? Wot wiv all the crime an’ all. Well. That’s true. But there is also another side to Lewisham; one in which Victorian buildings co-exist with shiny regenerated areas, and where farmers’ markets and leisure centres are available for all to use. Now Lewisham Council has decided to refurbish the oldest pool in London, Forest Hill Pools, which were built in the 1880s. The Pools were suddenly closed in......
